Trail, BC, Canada is situated on the Columbia River in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. The community is considered the commercial and industrial hub of the West Kootenays with Tech Cominco Smelter as its main employer. The community of Trail, BC is rich in hockey folklore, Italian Heritage and mining history. Trail, BC is well documented as the birthplace to many NHL hockey players, so much so, the community is called the "Home of Champions". The community is divided into various neighbourhhods. West Trail is the older part of town. Much of it built on a hillside overlooking the Columbia River and downtown. Unique to West Trail, BC, Canada are the pedestrian stair tunnels climbing uphill connecting streets. East Trail is the newer part of town. South Trail is the commercial section of the community with big box stores. In the middle of it all, is downtown with a selection of retail shops and stores. There is a good selection of services important to travelers like restaurants, banks, grocery stores, gas stations, post office, laundromats, repair shops, internet access, accommodations, tours, attractions, coffee shops and gift shops. In the summer months some of the activities enjoyed in the Kootenay region include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, dirt biking, atving, boating, atving, canoeing and river kayaking. Gyro Park is a popular swimming, walking and picnicking park in the community. The park includes a sandy beach and a waterfront walkway. Further out, in the backcountry wilderness of the Kootenays is another great hiking and recreation destination park called Champion Lakes Provincial Park. During the winter months, after the snow has fallen, there are many activities enjoyed in Trail, BC like cross country skiing, heli skiing, cat skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and ice fishing. A few kilometres west, in the community of Rossland, is Red Mountain which is a downhill skiing and snowboarding resort. |
