BC, Canada is situated on the banks of the Columbia River in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. The community is a commercial and industrial hub servicing many of the smaller villages in the region including Warfield, Sunningdale, Rivervale, Oasis, Columbia Gardens, Fruitvale, Montrose and Glenmerry.
Trail BC has a long First Nation and Italian history.. as well as, a long and successful past in the mining industry. So much so, that today, the Tech Cominco Smelter is the main employer in the region.
The community is divided into various neighbourhoods. Each distinctive in its own right.
West Trail is the old heritage district part of town. The older buildings and homes are built on the steep slopes located west of downtown so to overlook the Columbia River.
The hillside neighbourhoods and local roads on the west side are connected by a series of unique pedestrian tunnels with stairs connecting to each level on the hillside.
East Trail is the newer part of town with newly constructed homes.
South Trail is the commercial side of the community with big box stores and retail shopping.
In the middle is Downtown Trail with its selection of boutiques, vendors, coffee shops and many local retail outlets.
There is a good selection of services important to travelers located in Trail including accommodations, campgrounds, spas, tours, restaurants, banks, grocery stores, gas stations, post office, laundromats, repair shops, internet access, attractions, coffee shops, big box stores, gift shops and transportation (taxi, car rental).
In the summer months some of the activities enjoyed in the Trail region include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, dirt biking, atving, boating, picnicking, canoeing, kayaking and river rafting.
Gyro Park is the most popular destination park in Trail. The park includes a sandy beach and a waterfront walkway. There are opportunities for swimming, biking, walking and picnicking.
Outside of the city limits, in the backcountry wilderness regions of the Kootenays, is another great hiking and recreation destination park called the Champion Lakes Provincial Park.
During the winter months, after the snow has fallen, there are many activities enjoyed from Trail, BC like cross country skiing, heli skiing, cat skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and ice fishing. Many are based out of the community of Rossland which is minutes away by vehicle.
