There are many ski mountain resorts located in the high alpine mountain ranges in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada . The downhill ski hills in the Kootenays are well known for powder snow, big steeps, glades and bowls. All Kootenay ski hills have a selection of trails accommodating various skill levels. The snow trails on the ski hills are safely accessed via a network of ski lifts like gondolas, quad and double chairs and T-bars. Each hill is different. All hills provide ski equipment rentals and lessons.
The Kootenays has a high concentration of downhill ski mountain resorts. They all vary in size and services. Many ski hills are anchored by colorful villages built up with services like restaurants, pubs, sport shops, general stores, tour companies, coffee shops, day cares, spas, gift stores and accommodations like chalets, hotels, inns, lodges and cottages. Each ski hill is in close proximity to a community where there are more services.
Most of the downhill ski hills in the Kootenay region cater to other winter activities also like snowboarding, heli skiing, cat skiing, ice skating, nordic skiing and dog sledding. Some of the mountains in the region also work with alpine clubs and assist in maintaining a network of cross country ski trails.
