MacPherson Trails is an extensive
network of inter-connecting trails near the community of Revelstoke,
BC in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. The primary
use of the trails is during the winter months when the trail
network is a popular cross country ski destination. In the summer
months the trail network becomes a prime mountain biking and
hiking destination.
XC skiers and mountain bikers will be happy
to know that the trails are very well marked and the signage
is very well maintained. Many of the smaller trails combine
to make loop routes. But... because of the high number of small
trails, it is easy to get turned around so it is wise for newcomers
to carry a trail map.
Mount MacPherson offers xc skiers and mountain
bikers over 24 kilometres of adventure trails. The trails provide
include single track routes and plenty of downhill. The trail
park includes ponds, lakes and creeks. The trail network crosses
over wooden bridges, boardwalk, tree roots, sharp rocks and
deadfall trees.
In the main parking lot located on Hwy 23S
there is a large trail map, a few information signs and a pit
toilet. Also located within the trail network, where the Main
Loop Trail meets the Creek Crawl Trail, there is a pit toilet
and a shelter. There are some picnic tables located along some
of the routes also.
The Mt. MacPherson Trail system is maintained
and operated by the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club in the winter.
The nordic club grooms the trails, usually after every snowfall
and before weekends. The club snowcat grooms for both classic
and skating cross country ski techniques.
The Mt. MacPherson Trail routes appeal to all
levels of xc skiers. The mountain provides well groomed easy
routes for the beginner and routes for the experienced. Some
of the more popular ski routes include The Mickey Olsen, Cedar
Ramble, Beaver Lake Road and the Loggers Lane.
In the summer the trails provide hours of enjoyment
for mountain biking and hiking. The bike routes are both challenging
and easy appealing to all levels of experience. The trails provide
plenty of single track routes and downhill opportunities. Some
of the easier routes include Easy Al's and Novice Glide Trails.
Difficult routes include Madman's Leap, Mountain Climb and Break-A-Leg
Trails.
Hikers visit the area also during the summer
months, so please keep your head up and respect each other on
the trail avoiding any type of mishaps. Mount MacPherson is
