| Martha
Creek Provincial Park is a recreation
campground and day use park situated on the shores of Lake
Revelstoke. It is located just north of the community of
Revelstoke, BC in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada.
The provincial park situated on crown and forestry lands, far
removed from the sights, sounds and distractions of the city.
Martha Creek Provincial Park is a destination
park with lots to offer. Some of the activities enjoyed when
visiting in the park include boating, canoeing, swimming, fishing,
camping and picnics. Some stay for a few days in the campground,
while others enjoy the lake activities and day use facilities.
The top level of the Day Use Area fronts a
large RV friendly gravel parking lot. There are picnic tables
on a large grassy field, some under the shade of trees while
others sit in the open sun. There is a cooking picnic shelter,
a volleyball court and some horseshoe pits.
Below the parking lot is a sandy beach. It
is one of the few public access sandy beaches on Lake Revelstoke.
On the beach, if you are lucky, are a few lakefront picnic tables
with excellent lake views. Also there is a children's jungle
jim playground on the beach adjacent to the sectioned-off swimming
area.
On the other side of the gravel parking lot
is a short dirt road leading down to a paved boat ramp and a
wharf. Boaters can tie up their boats or park them overnight
in the parking lot. Fishing is a popular activity in these parts.
Many come to fish for whitefish, rainbow, kokanee and bull trout.
Road cyclist, often decide to stay at the campground
while touring Hwy 23N. Some cyclists continue past the park
and bike all the way to Mica Dam. Mountain bikers arrive at
the campground because 2 kilometres up the highway is a fire
road leading up to the Martha Creek mountain bike downhill trail.
Being only 20 or so kilometres from the community
of Revelstoke, BC... there are many other destinations to see
in the area including other parks and trails. One of the most
popular hiking, backpacking, wilderness camping and sightseeing
parks is the Mt. Revelstoke
National Park located near the beginning of Hwy 23N.
How to Get to Martha
Creek Provincial Park:
From the corner of Hwy #1 and Victoria Street
in Revelstoke, BC head up hill for approximately 300 metres
to the Hwy 23N turn off. Continue driving or biking for 20 kilometres
to the park enjoying some mountain and lake views on the way.
