Revelstoke, BC, Canada is
located in the north Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada.
The community is a recreation and adventure gateway surrounded by looming mountain ranges, rushing rivers, man-made lakes and national, provincial and community parks. The Selkirk and Monashee Mountains dominate the skyline in Revelstoke. The Columbia and Illecillewaet Rivers decorate the community. Upper Arrow Lake and Lake Revelstoke are the two man-made lakes which bookend the community. In the summer months activities enjoyed in Revelstoke include hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, birding, rafting, cycling, swimming, camping, fishing, boating, backpacking, wildlife viewing, canoeing, water skiing and river kayaking. In the winter months, after the snow and temperatures have fallen, the activities include downhill skiing, snowboarding, heli skiing, CAT skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing and snowmobiling. Mount Mackenzie (Revelstoke Mountain Resort) is the downhill ski and snowboard mountain destination in the region entertaining locals and the many visitors arriving in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada during the winter season. In the summer season the mountains and parks transform into hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and backpacking trail destinations. Popular summer adventure trails include the alpine meadows, glaciers and viewpoints located in the Mount Revelstoke National Park, the waterfall trail called Begbie Falls and the mountain biking trails called Mount Macpherson Trails. Revelstoke provides many of the services important to travelers including accommodations (hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, hostels, cottages, vacation homes) campgrounds, tours, guides, rentals, gas stations, restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, banks, internet, museums, art, entertainment, laundromat, retail stores, shops and boutiques. The River Trail is an ideal way to sightsee the town and to connect with various parks and attractions. The paved sightseeing trail follows the banks of the Columbia and Illecillewaet Rivers and is very popular for walking, jogging, picnicking and biking. Sections of the trail are very wheelchair and baby stroller friendly. |
