Lakeside Park is a waterfront park on the shores of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake in the community of Nelson, BC which is in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. The well maintained park is one of the more popular community parks in Nelson because of a beautiful sandy beach, a waterfront walkway and the many water activities. The park is located in the heart of the community of Nelson. It starts from the big "Orange Bridge" and follows the lake shoreline and sandy beach to some playing fields. The entire park is connected by a paved Waterfront Pathway. A pathway popular for jogging, walking and sightseeing. The park is an easily accessible park popular for many other activities including swimming, boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, suntanning, throwing a frisbee, reading a book, walking, having lunch and roller blading. Lakeside Park is a recreation and leisure destination consisting of many services and amenities. The grass lawns and Waterfront Pathway are lined with sitting benches, some in the shade of trees and others providing front row seats looking out over the lake and sandy beach. There are stone statues, a totem pole, monument dedications, flower gardens, picnic tables and trees located throughout the park. Near the "Orange Bridge" in Lakeside Park is a public wharf, a boat launch, change rooms, washrooms, picnic shelter and an adventure playground. During the summer months there is a concession stand operating serving food and drinks. Farthest from the bridge in Lakeside Park are some tennis courts, soccer fields, many more beautiful flower gardens and sitting benches lining the Waterfront Pathway. When soccer is not being played, people are playing frisbee and catch. The historic Streetcar #23 also runs through the park and is another way to view Lakeside Park and a great way to see Nelson. The Streetcar #23 is part of the transportation system in Nelson and operates as a sightseeing tour of Nelson as well. How to Get to Lakeside Park Travel to the community of Nelson, BC. on Highway #3a or Highway #6. Stay on the main highway in Nelson and at the big ``Orange Bridge``, on the downtown side, is Lakeside Park. Drive down to the shore via Beatty Avenue or get off the highway at 2nd Street and drive to the entrance. |
