James
Chabot Provincial Park is
a small day-use, recreation beach park resting on the northern
shores of Windermere Lake
in the community of Invermere, BC., Columbia Valley, British
Columbia, Canada. The James Chabot Park is also referred
to as Althamer Park - an effort to recognize the history
of the park and the traditions of the First Nation people.
Today, the park is a very
popular local recreation destination. The 14 hectare park
includes a sandy beach, grassy lawns, wheelchair accessible
flush toilets, change rooms, running cold water taps, lakefront
playground, many picnic tables - some under the shade of
trees. All serviced by a large RV friendly paved parking
lot.
Summer activities enjoyed
in the park and on Windermere Lake include boating, water
skiing, tubing, swimming, canoeing, picnicking, fishing,
kayaking, birdwatching, wildlife viewing, hiking, windsurfing,
kayaking and volleyball.
While enjoying a day in the
James Chabot Park, every new visitor should take the time
to explore the wetland marsh along the Dragonfly Boardwalk
Trail. The wheelchair accessible trail runs a short 350
metres along the edge of Windermere Lake. It is an interpretive
pathway with information signs placed along the trail explaining
the wetland habitat and wildlife. It is ideal for birdwatching.
How
to Get to James Chabot Park:
Travel towards the community
of Invermere, BC, Canada on Hwy 93/95. Take the Invermere
access road into town for 3 Kilometres. Once in town travel
2 km to the James Chabot Provincial Park.
